Battle Back Golf Hosts Successful Spring Meet at Greetham Valley Golf Club

Battle Back Golf held its 2026 Spring Meet at Greetham Valley Golf Club, Oakham, on 9 and 10 April 2026, bringing together 30 members of the charity for one of its flagship events of the year.

Held each spring and autumn, the Battle Back Golf main meets provide an important opportunity for both new and existing members to come together in a supportive and welcoming environment. The events are a central part of the charity’s mission to support serving personnel and veterans who have been wounded, injured or made sick through service, using golf as a means of encouraging recovery, connection and wellbeing.

The Spring Meet once again highlighted the core values on which Battle Back Golf was founded: camaraderie, inclusion and mutual support. While the event centred around golf, its wider purpose was to bring people together, strengthen friendships and provide members with the chance to enjoy time on the course with others who share similar lived experiences. The relaxed atmosphere, social interaction and friendly banter all contributed to an event that supports positive mental health and overall wellbeing.

On this occasion, two new members were selected to take part after it was recognised that some existing amputee members would not be able to participate fairly due to walking, carrying and mobility challenges, which would have made the event unachievable and unfair for them.

Those selected were Jason Stevens, the new Battle Back Captain for 2026–27, and John Mills, Vice Chairman of Battle Back Golf.

John Mills, a 30-year member of the Royal Air Force, has dedicated his efforts to improving the lives and conditions of serving personnel and military veterans through exercise and rehabilitation. Alongside Jason Stevens, his involvement at the Spring Meet reflected the charity’s continued commitment to ensuring that Battle Back Golf remains inclusive, purposeful and supportive for all its members.

Jason Stevens, a 17 year military veteran who was injured in 2014. Jason was voted into the Battleback team captaincy for 2026-2027. His role is crucial to maintain the public image of Battleback to civilian communities whilst upholding the strong military standards post service.

The event at Greetham Valley proved to be another successful gathering for the charity and reinforced the important role Battle Back Golf continues to play in helping wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans rebuild confidence, improve wellbeing and maintain the strong sense of community that remains so vital beyond military service.
